Poppy is an English flower name for the bright red "poppy", from the Old English popaeg and ultimately the Latin papaver. In Britain and the Commonwealth the flower is a symbol of remembrance, and the name has been a favorite there for years before crossing the Atlantic. Poppy entered the US top 1000 in 2016, leapt from number 1027 in 2015 to a peak of 289 in 2023 and ranks 292nd in 2025.
