Ivy is the English name of the evergreen climbing plant, from the Old English ifig, and simply means "ivy". Because the vine clings and stays green all year, it has long been a symbol of faithfulness, and the name was fashionable with the Victorians alongside other plant names. In the United States Ivy ranked number 352 in 2000, climbed from number 130 in 2015 into the top 100 in 2018 and ranks number 39 among girls in 2025.
