Pippa is an English short form of Philippa, the feminine of Philip, which comes from the Greek for "lover of horses". Robert Browning's poem Pippa Passes gave it literary standing, and Pippa Middleton, sister of the Princess of Wales, brought it to American attention after the 2011 royal wedding. Pippa reached a best rank of 1742 in 2014 and has hovered around 1800 to 2500 since, standing at number 1864 in 2025.
