Daisy is the English flower name, from the Old English daeges eage, "day's eye", because the flower opens at dawn and closes at dusk. It also served as a nickname for Margaret, since the French marguerite means daisy, and F. Scott Fitzgerald gave it to Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby. Daisy ranked number 141 in the United States in 2000, drifted down to number 189 in 2016 and has rebounded strongly to enter the top 100 in 2024; it ranks number 75 among girls in 2025, its best rank in this century.
