Maisie is a Scottish pet form of Margaret, from the Greek margarites, and therefore means "pearl". It was popular in Britain in the early 20th century and has come back there strongly; Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones made it familiar to American audiences. In the United States Maisie entered the top 1000 in 2014, climbed from number 625 in 2015 and reached number 233 in 2025, its best rank yet.
