Violet is the English flower name, from the Latin viola, and means "violet" or "purple flower"; it was one of the Victorian botanical names alongside Rose and Lily. The name all but disappeared after the 1950s and came back with the vintage revival, helped by celebrity daughters named Violet. From number 734 in 2000 it reached the top 100 in 2012 and ranks thirteenth in 2025, climbing every year.
