Augustine is the English form of the Latin Augustinus, a diminutive of Augustus, and means "great" or "venerable". St. Augustine of Hippo, the 5th-century theologian, made it one of the great names of the Church, and St. Augustine, Florida, is the oldest European-founded city in the United States. Augustine rose from number 1175 in 2000 into the top 1000 in 2013 and reaches number 545 among boys' names in 2025, its best rank yet.
