Julian comes from the Roman family name Julianus, a derivative of Julius, which is usually explained as "youthful" or "downy-bearded". The emperor Julian and the medieval mystic Julian of Norwich carried it through history. In the United States Julian has been in the top 100 since 2000 and reached its best rank of twenty-fifth in 2025.
