Agustin is the Spanish form of Augustine, the Latin Augustinus, a diminutive of Augustus, meaning "venerable" or "great". Saint Augustine of Hippo made the name one of the most important in Christian history, and Agustín is a classic in Mexico and across Latin America. In the United States it is used mostly in Hispanic families; Agustin peaked at number 561 in 2001, slipped out of the top 1000 for a few years and ranks number 952 in 2025.
