Augustus is Latin for "venerable" or "majestic", the title the Roman Senate granted Octavian in 27 BC when he became the first emperor; the month of August is named after him. Its short forms Gus and Augie make the grand name easy to wear on a toddler. Augustus has been in the US top 1000 all century and rose from number 959 in 2000 to number 407 in 2025, its best rank yet.
