Yisroel is the Ashkenazi Hebrew pronunciation of Israel, the name given to the patriarch Jacob after he wrestled with the angel; it is usually explained as "he struggles with God" or "God contends". The spelling is used almost exclusively in Orthodox Jewish communities, where it honors figures like Rabbi Yisroel Baal Shem Tov, founder of Hasidism. Yisroel entered the US top 1000 in 2021 and reached number 826 in 2025, its best rank so far.
