Moshe is the Hebrew form of Moses, the prophet who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The Bible explains the name as "drawn out" of the water, though scholars also connect it with an Egyptian word for "son" or "born". In the United States it is used almost entirely in Orthodox Jewish families, which gives it a steady base: Moshe has held a place in the top 1000 since at least 2000, moving from number 654 then to number 436 in 2025, its best rank yet.
