Chaim is a Hebrew name that means "life", the same word heard in the toast l'chaim, to life. It has been a Jewish favorite since the Middle Ages and belongs to Israel's first president Chaim Weizmann and the novelist Chaim Potok. In the United States it is chosen mostly by Orthodox families; Chaim has been in the top 1000 since 2000, peaked at number 607 in 2022 and ranks 666 in 2025.
