Yehoshua is the original Hebrew form of Joshua and means "the Lord is salvation" or "God saves". In the Bible Yehoshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land after Moses, and the name Jesus is a Greek rendering of its shortened form Yeshua. In the United States Yehoshua is used almost only in Orthodox Jewish families; it peaked at number 1689 in 2019 and ranks number 1769 among boys' names in 2025.
