Valentine comes from the Latin Valentinus, a derivative of valens, and means "strong" or "healthy". The third-century martyr Saint Valentine gave his name to February 14, and Shakespeare used it for one of the Two Gentlemen of Verona. Long overshadowed by the holiday, Valentine has climbed from number 3585 in 2015 to number 1807 in 2025, its best rank on record for boys.
