Valentin comes from the Latin Valentinus, a derivative of valens, and means "strong" or "healthy". The third-century martyr Saint Valentine gave his name to February 14, which makes this a natural choice for a baby born around Valentine's Day; the form Valentin is used in French, German, Spanish and the Slavic languages. In the United States Valentin has been in the top 1000 since 2005, peaked at number 614 in 2007 and ranks 660 in 2025.
