Pedro is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Peter, from the Greek petros, meaning "rock" or "stone", the name Jesus gave to his apostle Simon. Two emperors of Brazil bore it, and actor Pedro Pascal is its best-known bearer in the United States today. Pedro is a staple in Hispanic American families: it ranked number 210 in 2000 and has gradually eased to number 455 in 2025.
