Carlos is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Charles, from the Germanic karl, and means "free man". Kings of Spain carried the name, and guitarist Carlos Santana made it a familiar sound in American music. Carlos ranked 66th in the United States in 2000, peaked at number 59 in 2001 and has settled between number 118 and 151 over the past decade; in 2025 it stands at number 150.
