Musa is the Arabic form of Moses, the prophet who led the Israelites out of Egypt; the Bible explains the name as "drawn out" of the water, and scholars also link it to an Egyptian word for "son". Mansa Musa, the fabulously wealthy 14th-century emperor of Mali, is its most famous African bearer. In the United States Musa entered the top 1000 in 2014 and has climbed from the 900s to number 470 in 2025, its best rank so far.
