Matheo is a modern spelling of Mateo and Matteo, the Spanish and Italian forms of Matthew, which come from the Hebrew Mattityahu and mean "gift of God" or "gift of Yahweh". The h in the middle is common in France and in Hispanic families in the United States, where Mateo itself has become a top 10 name. Matheo followed its big brother into the US top 1000 in 2023 and ranks number 751 in 2025, its best rank so far.
