Teo is a short form of Teodoro, Mateo and Theodore, all of which rest on the Greek theos, "god"; Theodore means "gift of God", Mateo "gift of Yahweh". In Spain, Italy and Scandinavia Teo is a given name in its own right, and American parents have taken it up as a crisp alternative to Theo. Teo entered the US top 1000 in 2022, peaked at number 761 in 2024 and ranks number 794 in 2025.
