Sadie began as an English pet form of Sarah and so means "princess" or "noblewoman", from the Hebrew. It was a name in its own right by the late 19th century, when it was hugely popular in the United States, and it has returned along with other vintage nicknames such as Millie and Hattie. Sadie ranked number 243 in the United States in 2000, entered the top 100 in 2013, dipped to number 87 in 2018 and 2019 and has climbed back to number 50 among girls in 2025.
