Issa is the Arabic form of the name Jesus, which goes back to the Hebrew Yeshua and means "the Lord is salvation" or simply "salvation". In Islam Isa is honored as one of the great prophets, so the name is common across the Muslim world and in West Africa. In the United States Issa has moved up slowly from number 3177 in 2000 to number 1535 in 2024 and ranks number 1682 among boys in 2025.
