Esa is a spelling of the Arabic Isa, the name of Jesus in the Quran, which is ultimately traced to the Hebrew Yeshua and means "God saves"; the same spelling is also a Finnish name derived from Isaiah. In Muslim American families it is a gentle, two-syllable alternative to Jesus and Joshua. In the United States Esa ranked number 7007 in 2000 and has climbed in stages to number 2546 in 2025, its highest position yet.
