Amya is a modern American name that arose as a spelling of Amaya and Amia; through Amaya it is usually explained as "night rain" from the Japanese or as "mother city" from the Basque town of Amaya, while Amia is linked to the Latin amata, "beloved". Its two syllables fit easily beside Maya and Anya. Amya was most popular in the early 2000s, peaking at number 423 in 2004, and has eased to number 2051 in 2025.
