Aniya is a modern American name, usually explained as an elaboration of Anya, the Russian pet form of Anna, so it carries the Hebrew meaning "grace" or "favor"; the spelling Aniyah is the more common twin. It emerged in the 1990s and belongs to the same family as Janiya and Amiya. Aniya ranked number 580 in 2000, peaked at number 261 in 2005 and has eased to number 1071 in 2025.
