Amaya is a Spanish name taken from a village and mountain in northern Spain; its meaning is uncertain and it is usually connected to the Basque amaia, "the end". In Japanese the same sound can be written to mean "night rain", which gives the name a second life in another culture. Amaya ranked 196th in the United States in 2000, peaked at number 129 in 2018 and has settled between number 160 and 180 since, standing at number 180 in 2025.
