Anya is a Russian diminutive of Anna, the Greek form of the Hebrew Hannah, and so it means "grace" or "favor"; in Sanskrit the same spelling is an independent name meaning "inexhaustible". The 1997 animated film Anastasia, whose heroine goes by Anya, and actress Anya Taylor-Joy have kept it in American view. Anya has been in the US top 1000 throughout this century and reached number 375 in 2025, its best rank in that time.
