Winter is an English season name that means simply "winter", the cold season, from the Old English word of the same spelling; parents choose it for its crisp, cool sound and sometimes for a December or January birthday. It follows Summer and Autumn into the top 1000 as a girls' name. Winter entered the US rankings in 2012, peaked at number 305 in 2022 and ranks number 426 in 2025.
