Winnie is a pet form of Winifred, the English version of the Welsh Gwenfrewi, which is usually read as "blessed peace" or "fair" and belongs to a 7th-century Welsh saint; it also shortens Gwendolyn and Edwina. The name is inseparable from Winnie the Pooh and the heroine of the television series The Wonder Years. Winnie entered the US top 1000 in 2019 and has climbed to number 475 in 2025, its best rank so far.
