Wren is taken straight from the English word for the small, quick songbird and means "wren" or "little bird", from the Old English wrenna. Like Robin and Lark it belongs to the nature names that American parents discovered in the 2010s. Wren entered the US top 1000 in 2012, rose from number 707 in 2015 to a peak of number 184 in 2022 and ranks number 231 among girls' names in 2025.
