Winnifred is a spelling of Winifred, the English form of the Welsh Gwenfrewi, from gwen, "white" or "blessed", and frewi, "reconciliation", so it is often read as "blessed peacemaking"; it was also confused early on with the Old English Winfrith, "friend of peace". St. Winifred of Holywell was a seventh-century Welsh saint. Winnifred was rare at number 6023 in 2015 and has risen with the vintage revival to number 2540 in 2025, its best rank to date.
