Genevieve is the English form of the French Geneviève, a name of uncertain origin that is usually explained from the Germanic kuni and wefa as "woman of the people" or "tribe woman". Saint Genevieve, the patron of Paris, is said to have saved the city from Attila's Huns in the fifth century. In the United States Genevieve ranked 510th in 2000, has hovered between number 150 and 190 for the past decade and reached number 148 in 2025, its best rank in this century.
