Hazel is an English nature name after the "hazel tree" and the warm "hazel brown" color of eyes; it was one of the fashionable plant names of the 1890s. After vanishing for decades it returned with the vintage wave, helped by the heroine of The Fault in Our Stars. Hazel was at number 893 in 2000, entered the top 100 in 2015 and ranks twenty-first in 2025.
