Ulises is the Spanish form of Ulysses, the Latin name of Homer's hero Odysseus. The meaning of the Greek original is uncertain; ancient writers connected it with odyssesthai and read it as "hated" or "wrathful", while the Latin form gave the English word odyssey its sense of a long journey. In the United States Ulises is used mainly by Hispanic families: it ranked number 557 in 2000, peaked at number 526 in 2006 and stands at number 1043 in 2025.
