Hector comes from the Greek Hektor, "holding fast" or "steadfast", the name of the Trojan prince who was Troy's greatest warrior in Homer's Iliad. The name has been in continuous use in Spain and Latin America, which is why it is most common in Hispanic families in the United States. Hector peaked at number 167 in 2005 and has eased to number 409 in 2025.
