Tzvi is a Hebrew name that means "deer" or "gazelle", an animal that stands for grace and beauty in the Bible; the Land of Israel is called eretz ha-tzvi, the beautiful land. In Yiddish-speaking communities it is often paired with Hirsch, the German word for deer, as Tzvi Hirsch. In the United States Tzvi is used by Orthodox Jewish families and has crept up from number 1282 in 2015 to number 1079 in 2025, its best rank to date.
