Suri has several roots: in Yiddish it is a pet form of Sarah, "princess", in Persian it is often explained as "red rose", and in Sanskrit it can mean "sun". The name became known in the United States when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes chose it for their daughter in 2006. Suri jumped from number 14802 in 2000 to a peak of number 1029 in 2012 and ranks number 1940 in 2025.
