Mira is a short, cross-cultural name: in Slavic languages it comes from mir and means "peace" or "world", in Sanskrit it is read as "ocean" or "prosperous", and in Latin mira means "wonderful". It is also the name of a famous variable star in the constellation Cetus. In the United States Mira entered the top 1000 in 2003 and has risen slowly but steadily to number 335 in 2025, its best rank so far.
