Sol is the Spanish and Portuguese word for "sun", from the Latin sol, and as a girls' name it is a short form of Marisol and of the Marian title Nuestra Señora del Sol. Short, bright and easy to say, it is popular in Spain and Argentina and has spread to Hispanic families in the United States. Sol ranked number 3015 for girls in 2000, rose steadily through the 2010s, entered the top 1000 in 2022 and reached number 722 in 2025, its best rank so far.
