Marisol is a Spanish name that is read either as a blend of María and Sol, "sun", or as the phrase mar y sol, "sea and sun"; either way it carries the brightness of the Mediterranean. It became popular in Spain in the 1960s through the child star Marisol and is well established across Latin America. In the United States Marisol was number 394 in 2000, peaked at 321 in 2006, dropped out of the top 1000 for a few years and has been back since 2020, ranking 667 in 2025.
