Sally began as an English pet form of Sarah, the Hebrew name meaning "princess" or "noblewoman", and has been used on its own since the 18th century. Astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, is its most notable modern bearer, and the name keeps a friendly, all-American ring. In the United States Sally ranked number 705 in 2000, soon slipped out of the top 1000 and stands at number 1158 in 2025.
