Primrose is a flower name from the medieval Latin prima rosa, "first rose", because the pale yellow primrose is one of the earliest flowers of spring. It was a Victorian favorite in England, and Primrose Everdeen, the heroine's younger sister in The Hunger Games, introduced it to a new generation of American readers. Primrose ranked number 3245 in 2015, peaked at number 2068 in 2021 and stands at number 2561 in 2025.
