Moises is the Spanish form of Moses, the prophet who led the Israelites out of Egypt. The name is most likely Egyptian and means "son" or "born of", though the Bible explains it as "drawn out of the water". Moises is used almost exclusively by Hispanic families in the United States; it ranked number 323 in 2000, peaked at number 308 in 2001 and has slipped to number 587 in 2025.
