Mayzie is an American spelling of Maisie, the Scottish pet form of Margaret, and so goes back to the Greek margarites, meaning "pearl". Dr. Seuss gave the spelling to Mayzie, the lazy bird in Horton Hatches the Egg, which is where many parents first met it. Mayzie has moved up from about number 3300 in 2016 to number 2045 in 2025, its best rank so far.
