Lukas is the German and Scandinavian spelling of Luke, which comes from the Greek Loukas and means "man from Lucania", a region of southern Italy; it is often also linked to the Latin lux, "light". Saint Luke, the evangelist and physician, made the name a classic across Europe. In the United States Lukas climbed from number 367 in 2000 to a peak of 214 in 2019 and ranks 288th among boys' names in 2025.
