Luka is the form of Luke used in Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Georgia and goes back to the Greek Loukas, "man from Lucania", a region of southern Italy; it is often associated with the Latin lux, "light". Basketball star Luka Doncic made the spelling familiar to American sports fans. Luka ranked number 1442 in 2000, has climbed every year since 2015 and reached the top 100 in 2023 and number 85 in 2025, its best rank yet.
