Luke is the English form of the Greek Loukas, which means "man from Lucania", a region in southern Italy. Saint Luke, the evangelist and physician, carried the name through the centuries, and Luke Skywalker gave it a modern hero. Luke has been one of the steadiest names in the United States: number 59 in 2000, between number 28 and number 34 for the whole of the past decade, and number 33 among boys in 2025.
