Josias is the Latin and Spanish form of Josiah, the Hebrew Yoshiyahu, meaning "God supports" or "God heals". The biblical Josiah was a reforming king of Judah, and the Josias spelling appears in older Bibles and in the Spanish, French and German traditions. In the United States it is used mostly in Hispanic families; Josias climbed from number 2504 in 2000 to number 950 among boys' names in 2025, its first year in the top 1000.
