Olive is the English form of the Latin oliva and means "olive" or "olive tree", the ancient symbol of peace that also gave the world Olivia. It was a top 100 name in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is now enjoying a full vintage revival, helped along by Popeye's Olive Oyl and a few celebrity babies. Olive re-entered the US top 1000 in 2007, peaked at number 159 in 2022 and ranks number 197 in 2025.
